What benefit would I get from hiring an attorney for my speeding or reckless driving ticket in Virginia?

The answer to this will depend on the charge you are facing. If you are charged with a basic speeding ticket, there is a chance we can get this charged dismissed after completion of driving school, or reduced to prevent all or some of the points from going on your record in order to help you with keeping a your car insurance at a reasonable rate.

If you are charged with reckless driving, this is a misdemeanor (criminal) offense. Depending on the severity of the charge, we may be able to reduce the charge so that (1) the misdemeanor does not go on your criminal record, and (2) to prevent all or some of the points from going on your record to help you with insurance.

Each persons case is different. Several factors most courts consider when deciding whether to reduce your speeding or reckless driving charge in Virginia are (1) your driving record, (2) what court you are in, (3) the speed you were going, and (4) your interaction with the police officer.

The law is the same all over Virginia, but judges in different courts are very different in what they may do. That is where an attorney that is familiar with the court can help. He can tell you what that specific judge is likely to do based on the attorney’s past experience. There are no guarantees but that surely seems like a better idea than going at it alone.

So, if you received a speeding or reckless driving ticket in Virginia, it wouldn’t hurt to at least speak to a lawyer familiar with the county or city you got the ticket in, give that lawyer the important information about your case, and get a consulation regarding what that court is most likely to do with your case.
