Why Choose Our Firm
- We have extensive experience successfully recovering compensation for injured victims in Petersburg.

- We only work on a contingency fee basis and do not get paid unless you win.
Why You Need a Personal Injury Lawyer
When someone is injured and another party is to blame, the recovery process for compensation can be difficult and complex. There is only one chance to secure a settlement that will compensate you fully for all of your losses. Insurance companies will often attempt to take advantage of you with a settlement offer that is lower than the value of your case. Even if the amount seems fair, discussing your case options with a lawyer will ensure that every element of your recovery is considered.

Virginia Personal Injury Laws
A Virginia law, known as the statute of limitations, gives injury victims two years from the date of the incident to file a personal injury claim against the party at fault in most cases. If a lawsuit is not filed within the set time period, victims may lose their right to sue the responsible party. When a lawsuit is being filed against a Virginian government entity, a written notice of the claim must be given to the government. A claim involving a city or town allows victims six months from the date of the accident to send notice. Whereas, a period of one year is given when a claim is against the Virginia state government or transportation district.
In order to collect compensation in a personal injury claim, evidence proving that another party was negligent is required. The following must be shown:
- The party which caused the injury had a duty of care, or responsibility to not injure you.
- The at-fault party breached their duty of care, or failed to meet their duty, and caused the injury.
- Real injuries were suffered along with damages, or a financial loss, as a result of the accident.
Virginia is also one of the few states that follows the rule of contributory negligence. A system which does not allow victims to recover any damages from another party, if they are ruled to bear any responsibility for the accident, even if it is only one percent.
